Cake & Lace: Dressing for a Marie Antoinette Birthday Party

Earlier this month, I attended my friend Leanna’s 26th birthday party. Every year, she comes up with a fun theme for her birthday party and encourages all of the guests to dress up. Some of her birthday party themes in the past were royalcore, Barbie vs. Bratz, and the Great Gatsby. This year, the theme was Marie Antoinette, and the vibe was bows, ruffles, lace, and pastel pink.

When deciding what to wear for the event, I didn’t want to entirely start from scratch, but I still wanted to come up with something that would be on-theme. Two years ago for Leanna’s Barbie vs. Bratz party, I wore a pink ruffle dress with a black corset over top. Since that same dress would be perfect for the Marie Antoinette party, I decided I would wear it again, but this time I would get a white corset to put on top. I found one of the popular Amazon corsets in white and ordered it along with some matching white gloves and white heels.

When the day of the party came and I put the whole outfit together, it was perfectly on theme. To accessorize, I just added some pearl necklaces I already had along with a white bow in my hair. Almost all of the guests wore some type of corset to the party, with pearls and bows being popular accessories. The birthday girl herself wore a pastel pink Selkie gown with a sparkly choker, lace gloves, and a Marie Antoinette wig.

If anyone is looking for inspiration for a Halloween costume or a themed event, I recommend seeing if you already have anything that could work as the base of the outfit. That way, you will have less you will have to buy for the look overall. When shopping for the rest of the outfit, I also like to try to find things that I will likely still wear in the future beyond just the specific costume. In this case, I can easily reuse the white corset and white gloves as the base for a future costume, and the white heels will pair well with many different outfits.
